Sunset Social Hour Tulsa

Dr. Andreya Williams

In December 2024, I was hired to take photos for the Sunset Social Hour for the Gathering Place in Tulsa. Event photography can be tough (especially for an introvert), but very rewarding all the same.

I started doing event photography when I was 15 years old at my youth group. Even back then, I mainly focused on candid moments over posed photos. I have no problems with people posing in a photo, but candid moments are more satisfying to me.

About a year ago I solidified my event photography style, treating event photography like street photography. Street photography is about capturing life as it is right now. Some even consider street photography to be the purest form of photography and I feel the same way. For me, it's the approach and overall philosophy that street photographers have that draw me to it. To that end, I believe it keeps my event photographs from not just being functional photos, but carrying some weight of artistic expression.

Ultimately, though it’s just more fun.

If you want to learn more about street photography I would recommend checking out street photographers on Instagram and YouTube. If you can afford it photo books are also a great resource.

Lastly, for those curious the gear I used for this event was my Canon 6D Mark II, Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM A, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, Yongnuo YN560 IV Speedlite, and Cinebloom diffusion (20%).

You can check out more of my work on my Instagram at @zachgo4th and feel free to reach out if you need event photos in the Tulsa area.
